DanceSport developed out of the narrow confines of competition ballroom dancing but today includes any dance style which has achieved an internationally recognized organized competition structure and has adopted the sports based culture. The currently recognized sections or disciplines in International-Style DanceSport are the Standard section, the Latin American section, the Ten Dance section and the Rock 'n' Roll section.
The currently recognized sections or disciplines in American Style DanceSport are the Smooth section, Rhythm section and the Nine dance section.
